My summertime skin needs serious exfoliation, particularly my t-zone. I started using cleansing grains about 6 months ago (from Mountain Rose Herbs) and they have become my new skincare staple. Not only are cleansing grains gentle and effective, but they are extremely easy to DIY using basics that you probably already have lying around.
For this DIY, I’m using a grain/nut/clay/seaweed combination, but you can add in dried flowers, dried fruit powders, herbs, ground seeds, powdered milk…the possibilities are endless.
Cleansing Grains DIY: Oat, Walnut, Clay, Spirulina
Makes approximately 3 oz.
¼ cup oats
1 tbsp. walnuts
1 tbsp. red clay
¼ tsp. spirulina powder
Grind the oats and walnuts in a blender, using the grind setting, for approximately 30 seconds. Add the oat and walnut mixture to a bowl and mix in the clay and spirulina. Store the cleansing grains in an airtight container.
To use the cleansing grains, add 1 tsp. of the cleansing grains to the palm of your hand and mix with a small amount of water, honey or your regular liquid cleanser. Apply to skin in a circular motion. Rinse well with cool water and gently pat face dry.
