A Natural Fabric Dye

The Finished Table Runner

My linen table runner started off as a cream color. After my purchase, I realized that I buy a lot of white flowers and would prefer a brightly colored table runner instead. So, I ransacked my cabinets and refrigerator to find an effective, natural way to dye my table runner. Found it.

The Natural Dye
1 tbsp. of turmeric
¼ tsp. of smoked paprika

spices
Turmeric and Smoked Paprika

The Dye Process
Fill a stock pot halfway with water.

Add the turmeric and paprika to the water.

Bring the spice/water mixture to a boil for 5 minutes.

Add your clean, wet fabric to the pot.

Let the fabric simmer lightly on low heat for 10-20 minutes.

Remove the fabric from the pot and place in a large bowl.

Rinse the fabric with cold water for a few minutes. You can also let the fabric sit in the cold water for 10-15 minutes.

Remove the fabric from the water, wring out the excess water and let the fabric air dry.

Once the fabric is completely dry, iron the fabric.

Enjoy!
