The most difficult thing about transitioning my cleaning products from the standard, toxic products to more natural products has been finding great alternatives to the classic products that I used to be reliant on, like Ajax.
On the EWG’s (Environmental Working Group) website, Ajax has a score of F (the scale is A-F, with A being the lowest concern to one’s health and the environment and F being the highest concern).
Lately, I’ve been searching for at least one great store-bought product alternative and also experimenting with DIY recipes so that I can have a couple of good options.
DIY Love: Lime-Eucalyptus Surface Scrub
Baking soda has amazing cleaning power as a great stain and odor remover.
Eucalyptus essential oil is reported to have anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral properties…and it’s also an immune stimulant.
Lime peel smells great and also has cleaning power.
Sea salt is a gentle scouring agent.
1 cup of baking soda
8 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
Grated lime peel of one lime
1 teaspoon of sea salt
Product Love: Mrs. Meyer’s Surface Scrub
Mrs. Meyer’s has a really great Lemon-Verbena Surface Scrub that I love. EWG gives this product a B on its rating scale. Smells and works great.
