If you love to cook, as I do, you’ve probably seen a lot of hype lately about the deliciousness of fresh, homemade flour tortillas. Let me tell you….the hype is all true.
The flour tortillas featured in this post are the second batch that I’ve made in the past month. I fell in love with the first batch and have vowed to never go back to store bought flour tortillas. Here’s the process…
Flour Tortillas
This recipe is adapted from the Scaling Back blog (I cut the salt by 1/2)…simple and amazing.
Makes 6 flour tortillas
2 cups all purpose flour
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cups of warm water
Extra flour for kneading the dough
Extra olive oil for cooking
Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Add the olive oil to the warm water. Add the oil/water mixture to the flour mixture and combine, then knead until soft and doughy. Let the ball of dough rest for an hour.
The Dough
After the hour is up, separate the large dough ball into six dough balls.
The Dough…Rolled Out
Next, roll each dough ball into a flat, round tortilla shape.
Place the tortillas, one at a time, into a lightly olive-oiled pan. Cook each side on medium heat until they look like this…
Trust me…you will not be disappointed. Enjoy!
