The Honest Life, 1

For the past year, I’ve been in the process of transitioning my home cleaning and beauty products to natural products. I’ve wanted to try The Honest Company’s products for awhile now and I finally have.

Honest products are available for purchase individually or as a subscription-based bundle of 5 for $35.95. Although I’m not a fan of subscription-based services, I decided to try the bundle so that I could try a bunch of products at once. The good news is that I can cancel my subscription at any time and I can schedule my bundles, so if I don’t want or need a bundle every month, I can schedule a bundle for every other month or every 2 months…you get the picture.

For my first bundle of The Honest Company’s products, I ordered toothpaste, laundry detergent, body oil, sunscreen, and stain remover.

Toothpaste: Love It.

For the past several years, I’ve been a diehard fan of Aquafresh Extreme Clean.

Those commercials are true…the bubbles, the clean, refreshing feeling…all accurate.
I wasn’t expecting those same qualities from The Honest Company’s Fresh Mint Toothpaste, but to my surprise, I got those same qualities. This toothpaste will definitely be a mainstay for me.

Laundry Detergent: Like It.

I typically use Method’s Fresh Air laundry detergent (which I love), but wanted to try something new. I purchased the Free and Clear laundry detergent and liked it. Good cleaning power, like that it’s unscented, number of washes vs. the price is good. The only thing that I missed (from Method) was the packaging. The Honest Company’s detergent is packaged in the standard detergent way, with the big measuring cap. I prefer Method’s pump packaging.

Organic Body Oil: Love It.

I love a good body oil and typically rotate between 2 or 3 (from The Body Shop) at any given time. The other body oil’s that I use are scented, so I like that The Honest Company’s oil is unscented. The oil soaks in, moisturizes well, and a little goes a long way.

Sunscreen: Not So Much.

There’s nothing that I enjoy more than laying out in the sun, by the pool or at the beach, for hours at a time. My skin is prone to sunburn, so I really need good protection. To me, sunscreen is as much about the protection as the summery, beachy scent. I love that scent. It automatically transports me to the beach…whether I’m putting sunscreen on to go to work, or to go for a walk in the park. The Honest Company’s SPF 30 sunscreen works well. It’s mineral-based, which is great. But I hate the scent.

Stain Remover: Love It.

So, I’m a klutz. I spill (mainly coffee) on my off-white carpet and light gray couch on a fairly regular basis, so a good stain remover is an essential for me. I’ve used Resolve for the past few years and love how effective the product is, but hate the chemical smell that’s left behind for hours after use. The day after I received my bundle, guess what happened??? I spilled coffee on my carpet. So, I tried my new French Lavender (very faint scent) stain remover and it worked perfectly! With no chemical scent!! I’m sticking with this product for sure.

I’ve been trying to transition to more natural products all around as well. Haven’t tried any Honest products yet (probably because I don’t have any little ones)

Hi Sarah…I believe that Honest started out with a major focus on their Baby product line, but over the years they’ve added their Cleaning, Bath & Body, and Health & Wellness product lines. I don’t have little ones either and I’ve found that there are lots of different non-baby products to try. I just received my second bundle of Honest products, so stay tuned for a Part 2 to this post. Thanks for the comment!
